The government of Ukraine promises to raise financing of the defense complex and transform the Ukrainian military forces to the NATO standards. But the NATO representatives have doubts about fulfillment of these promises.

According to the Ukrainian legislation, the expenditure on the defense complex makes up 3% of the gross domestic product. This is more than it is foreseen by the NATO demands. And in real life the defense complex of Ukraine is financed only by 1,3 %. That’s why it is practically unreal to rearm the Ukrainian army in compliance with the NATO standards. The director of the Center of army research and disarmament Serhiy Zgurets thinks.

According to him, if more than half a million of US dollars is allocated in the next five years, as the President has promised, then the Ukrainian army will be re-equipped by 70% in compliance with the NATO demands.
