Absence of border delimitation in Kerch channel gives the Russian Federation possibility to avoid compensation payments to Ukraine. Ex Foreign Minister of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk said that today, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

He reminded that Ukraine and Russia have not got fixed delimitation of maritime boundary in the Sea of Azov.

According to Tarasyuk, it means that one of the sides can ignore interests of another side concerning fishing catch and its responsibility for sea pollution.

“This emergency catastrophe in Kerch channel again showed necessity of regulation of maritime boundaries,” he said.

Tarasyuk said that formally Russia stood for non-recognition of boundary in Kerch channel. Basing on such position, the Russian Federation can cast doubts on its responsibility for caused damages for Ukraine in Kerch channel.

As a reminder, on November 11 the heavy storm became a reason for accident in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov: about twenty ships were shipwrecked. As a result of catastrophe, about 2 thousand tons of black oil leaked in to the sea and about 7 thousand tons of sulphur are underwater in sank ship.

Emergency Minister Nestor Shufrych stated that issue on compensation of ecology damage to Ukraine from owners of Russian ships with oil, sank in Kerch channel, would be solved within international agreements.
