It is very important to build a highway connecting Odesa and Reni, President Viktor Yushchenko told reporters in the town of Vylkove in Ukraine’s Odesa region on Tuesday after chairing a meeting on the development of Zmiyinyy Island and the region’s south, President's press office reports.

“The Odesa-Reni highway is the key to developing this territory. This is the key answer to the question whether those people that reside here will feel comfortable. So I have instructed the government and ministers to allocate funds from the 2008 budget for building this road without any discussions,” he said.

The Odesa-Reni motorway with a bridge over the Dniester firth is expected to make trips from Odesa to Bilgorod-Dnistrovsky and back much shorter and will connect the ports of Reni, Izmayil, Illichivsk and Bilgorod-Dnistrovsky to the rest of Ukraine. It will also become a convenient extension of several transportation corridors and help develop transportation between Northern and Eastern Europe and Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, and the Middle East.
