President Viktor Yushchenko on Monday met with Mykhailo Korniyenko, Ukraine’s acting Interior Minister. They spoke about how to tackle organized crime, maintain law and order and prevent business raids and illegal land seizures.

Yushchenko instructed Korniyenko to propose a bill allowing traffic police officers to impose harsher fines on those breaking traffic rules (6,521 people have been killed in 44,700 road accidents in Ukraine this year). He also insisted that police must more actively investigate recent bank robberies in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.

Ihor Pukshyn, President Yushchenko’s legal advisor, was present at the meeting, as the President's press office reports.
