US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine William Taylor considers that it will take 1-2 years for discussion in Ukrainian society concerning necessity to join NATO. The ambassador said that today, answering the questions of students in Kyiv international university.
According to Taylor, after 1-2 years of discussion of this issue and informative campaigns, Ukrainians will clear for themselves what NATO is. After that, the government can give an application for NAATO joining.
At that Taylor noted that it does not guarantee automatically that Ukraine will join NATO, because some European countries spent years to join NATO after announcement of their wish.
However, Taylor said in case Ukrainians agree to join the Alliance, NATO will assist in this process.
The ambassador noted that Ukrainians have different opinions concerning NATO, but decision must be made not by Europe or Russia but by Ukrainians.
