Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine is a crime and a tragedy but not genocide. Representative of the PR Vasyl Kyselyov told ForUm’s correspondent in an exclusive interview.

The People’s deputy reminded that the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko persistently demanded Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine to be recognized as genocide. According to Kyselyov, it is unjust. He noted that contemporaries considered events of those times were for a good cause and today’s generation considers those events a crime. “I think that it was a crime against peoples, living on the territory of the USSR. Stalin sacrificed millions of lives in order to hold industrialization of the country. But I will never agree that this is genocide,” he emphasized.

According to Kyselyov, Holodomor was the crime against humanity but to call it genocide, that is a depopulation of a particular nation, Ukrainians, is not right because the famine was also on the territory of Povolzhzhya and Kuban
