President Viktor Yushchenko met with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt in Kyiv on Thursday and said his country regarded Sweden as a reliable partner and one of the most consistent advocates of its EU membership bid, president's press office reported.

Yushchenko and Bildt spoke about a new agreement on enhanced cooperation between Ukraine and the EU. The president said this should be an “ambitious document” which will ensure Ukraine’s transition from the principles of cooperation and partnership with the European Union to the principles of political association and economic integration. They also discussed plans to mark the 300th anniversary of the Ukrainian-Swedish alliance of 1708.

Yushchenko invited King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia to visit Ukraine in 2008.
