A transition of Ukraine to contract army may be accomplished during next five years. Vice PM of Ukraine, General of the Army, Olexander Kuzmuk stated at a press conference on Tuesday.

Kuzmuk notes the election promises of some political forces concerning the transition to the contract army and the cancellation of the conscription in 2008 are problematic.

According to him, interference of political forces in to the work of the Supreme Commander in Chief and the government is groundless and dangerous; they may lead to difficult consequences.

The vice PM says that these promises do harm to the State. “Every potential conscript thinks: I will hide somewhere because there will be no conscription next year,” Kuzmuk said.

At the same time he reminded that President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko assigned two conscriptions for 2008.
