President Victor Yushchenko met with Greek President, Karolos Papoulias, in Athens on Thursday, President's press office reports. 

The two leaders spoke about how to develop bilateral ties in investment, trade, shipbuilding, energy, transportation and tourism. They discussed military and humanitarian cooperation between two countries and Ukraine’s chances to join the EU.

The Ukrainian President congratulated Greece on holding a snap parliamentary elections last Sunday. Papoulias expressed hopes Ukraine’s September 30 poll would be democratic and transparent.

Yushchenko asked the Greek leader to erect a Taras Shevchenko monument in one of the downtown districts of Athens and then invited him to visit Ukraine. He also offered his sympathy to the people of Greece over last August’s devastating fires.
