President Viktor Yushchenko told reporters on Tuesday the Dnipropetrovsk region’s new acting governor Viktor Bondar would help it achieve results. “I am convinced the Dnipropetrovsk region needs such a leader,” he said and added that it “will only benefit” from this appointment, president's press office reported.

Yushchenko said Bondar, who has been working in the “highest echelons of Ukraine’s government,” had much experience and could “mobilize the region’s business forces to change the face of this land.”

The President said Bondar had come to the region “not for a day,” urging him to formulate its development strategy, unite its political and business forces and “seriously change” its economy, education, healthcare and social policies.

Yushchenko expressed confidence Bondar would succeed in resolving the region’s biggestchallenges.
