President Viktor Yushchenko has signed a decree based on Tuesday’s decision by the National Security and Defense Council to suspend Minister of Transport Mykola Rudkovsky and Minister of Emergency Situations Nestor Shufrych, Yuriy Prodan, deputy secretary of the Security Council, has said.

Prodan said at a press briefing on Thursday the decree had been published in The Official Gazette of the President of Ukraine. “Our citizens cannot feel safe when accidents happen far too often and there is no guarantee they will be prevented and neutralized,” he said.

Prodan said there were lots of problems in the Ministries led by Rudkovsky and Shufrych. He criticized the Minister of Transport for making his industry a “source of national security threats” and said the Minister of Emergency Situations and his Ministry “systematically underestimate emergencies,” as the President’s press office reports.
