Ukraine will wait for a ruling of the UN International Court of Justice in Hague regarding the status of the Zmiiny Island by end of 2008, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk told a press conference in Odesa on Wednesday, Cabinet press service reported.

According to him, Ukraine has completed the process of delivery of its explanations regarding the Zmiiny Island status. As he stressed, Ukraine has assumed an obligation to stick to any ruling of the International Court of Justice.

As it is known, Romania appealed to the UN International Court of Justice with a request to delimit the sea borderline with Ukraine, particularly the continental shelf and exclusive economic zones around the Zmiiny Island, on September 16, 2004. The parties fail to reach an agreement on the status of the island: Romania believes the object is a rock without the right to territorial waters and Ukraine demands to recognize it an island with the right to territorial waters, which are rich with oil and gas.
