President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych on the eve of the Independence Day participated in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monuments of prominent Ukrainian figures – Taras Shevchenko, Mykhaylo Hrushevsky and Volodymyr the Great.
They were accompanied by Secretary of Security Council Ivan Plyushch, Deputy Prime Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk, Foreign Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Kyiv Governor Vira Ulyanchenko, members of parliament, public and religious leaders.
Then politicians had a minute of silence in memory of Holodomor victims of 1932-33 and laid flowers at the tomb of Unknown Soldier.
