President Viktor Yushchenko on Tuesday attended a ceremony in the town of Tavriysk in Ukraine’s Kherson region to open the machine-building plant.

In his speech, Yushchenko said he was glad the country’s majorpolitical forces supported his social policies. “As President, I am pleased there is no political forcein election campaign whichrefuses to implement [my] social policies,” he said.

Yushchenko said Ukraine’s economic growth should result in higher social standards. “This is not an electoral gesture for me. I just want to say that Ukraine, having such economic achievements, deserves a better life.”

The President said the early parliamentary elections on September 30 are “democratic means to resolve the parliamentary crisis.” “Today is a good occasion to speak about radical changes in the system of Government.”

Yushchenko described the opening ceremony as a “significant event for the region” and added that it would help boost local revenues and create 300 jobs.
