President Viktor Yushchenko can issue decrees to suspend Governmental resolutions and orders as a means to control the Cabinet, his aide Yan Bernazyuk has said at a press briefing on Thursday, President’s pres office reports.

Bernazyuk has said Yushchenko will ask the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to examine the legality of such resolutions. The Constitutional Court can then rescind them as unconstitutional, he added.

According to Bernazyk, the President has recently issued such decrees because the Government was “passing resolutions whose constitutionality is doubtful more actively.” He said even the Justice Ministry claimed some of these documents were inconsistent with Ukraine’s Constitution.
