President Viktor Yushchenko has sent a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych to complain that Ukraine’s state-owned oil and gas monopoly Naftogaz spends much but is expected to earn even less this year than in 2006, President’s press office reports.

“This shows the Government is not interested in revitalizing the company financially and does not control its performance effectively,” he said.

Yushchenko said a decision to allow Naftogaz to pay its debts later may lead to the government being unable to implement this year’s budget, including its social programs.

The President reminded the Prime Minister his Cabinet has to submit a 2008 financial plan for Naftogaz by August 27.
