Construction of new safely confinement over “Shelter" in Chernobyl nuclear power plant will be started in 2009. Volodymyr Kholosha deputy Emergency Minister informed.
He noted that according to the agreement that is expected to be signed with Novarka consortium in September of the current year, 1.5 year is dedicated for planning and expertise of project of new safety confinement. The project implementation term is 4.5 years since the date of agreement signing.
“For 1.5 year the project will be planning and in early 2009 construction will be started,” he said, adding that now works on preparation of corresponding engineering infrastructure are being held already in “Shelter” object.
Kholosha also noted that total cost of project realization is EUR 490 million.
Main function of confinement is to protect Chernobyl nuclear power plant staff, people and environment from influence of ionize radiation and creation of conditions for transformation of “Shelter” object in environmentally safety system.
