President Viktor Yushchenko on Monday sent a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych with a request to draft a law to grant a special status to the ethnic Ukrainians deported from Poland between 1944 and 1946.
Yushchenko said he had instructed the cabinet of ministers to draft such a law in September 2005 but added that nothing had been done so far, despite numerous appeals and requests by local self-governments and the victims of the Soviet-era deportation, President's press office reported.
