President Yushchenko is convinced that removal of total Deputies’ immunity will form the cornerstone of a renewed political system in Ukraine, the ForUm's correspondnet reported.
He announced this Thursday before the 16th anniversary session of OSCE In Kyiv, the President’s press service reported.
“Parliament should draft laws, not be a refuge from them. I’m depending on the current absolute immunity for deputies be reduced to clearly defined, tightly controlled standards found in the majority of European countries” said Yushchenko, commenting that the current unrestricted Deputies immunities “ prevents the cleansing of parliament from illegal schemes and corruption”
In the context of renewal of the political system in Ukraine the President underlined the importance of achieving transparent and systematic Constitutional reform and Extraordinary Parliamentary elections. He also announced “ a method to strengthen the quality of political processes “ with greater accountability and stronger relations between the people and Government, UNIAN reported
As announced July 4 at a meeting with representatives of big business Yushchenko stressed the need to separate Government and Business. The Head of State believes the main impetus will be the change of complete Deputies’ immunity.
