President Viktor Yushchenko supported the decision of the businessmen who decided not to be candidates for VR deputies for the VI convocation. He announced this at a meeting of big business in Ukraine
Yushchenko thanked the businessmen for this decision and underlined that he congratulates “those businessmen who rejected their transition into parliament” UNIAN announced
He emphasized the need to separate government from business. In the opinion of the Head of State, the main result of this might be the removal of deputies’ immunity. He considers, that Ukraine “shouldn’t be in the same row” with 22 other countries, like Afghanistan, Iran, Liberia, Zimbabwe where deputies’ immunity still exists today.
Yushchenko believes that the removal of deputies’ immunity will allow politicians in parliament to concentrate on politics, and businessmen to only run their businesses.
