About 200 thousand people visited the free of charge concert of Elton John on June 16 in Kyiv on Maydan Nezalezhnosti.
President of Ukraine Viktor Yushenko and other politicians were among the audience. The concert, being the most dimensioned for Ukraine, was transmitted live on television. Informative booklets with information on HIV/AIDS were given to all persons who wished.
By this performance Elton John wanted people to know more about the HIV/AIDS problems. According to some data, every 10 minutes one person in Ukraine becomes infected with HIV. The British composer and performer told the audience that he would do all the possible to help Ukrainian in fight with the disease.
Elton John’s fund has being financed 23 dedicated to HIV fight projects in Ukraine. Money obtained from the sold VIP tickets will be used for these projects too.
