In an interview with Azerbaijan’s Lider TV, ANS and AzTV on Wednesday, President Victor Yushchenko talked about developments in Ukraine, its Euro-Atlantic bid and relations with the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan, President's press office informed.

Speaking about GUAM, its prospects and priorities, Yushchenko, who is scheduled to attend a GUAM summit in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital city, next week, said regional initiatives were "very important for promoting the national interests of its members.”

The President said Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova planned to extend the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline westward to Poland’s Plock and Gdansk and build a railroad and ferry route to connect Baku, Tbilisi, Poti and Kerch. He said the four states could also build aircraft and should sign a free trade agreement.

Yushchenko added that the GUAM enlargement issue was high on their agenda.
