According to the Cabinet of Ministers, as of early 2007/2008 marketing year, the transition stock of food wheat in Ukraine will reach some one million tons. This forecast was announced by Vice Prime Minister Viktor Slauta, the Cabinet press office reports.
As he stressed, the next marketing year the gross crop of wheat will secure the internal demand of the country and the productivity fall will be local, in some districts, which suffered from the drought the worst. Grain crops at the rest of the territory are supposed to meet the predicted volumes, Slauta added.
The soil drought hit one third of agricultural areas, which was some 10 million ha.
Notably, the Ukrainian Government has not yet named an official forecast of gross grain crop and productivity in the current year.
