President Yushchenko on Thursday reiterated his demand that law enforcement bodies must be politically neutral, President's press office reported.

Yushchenko addressed the leaders of law enforcement bodiesduring a news conference: “Dear colleagues, as President, I demand that you behave apolitically in this conflict. You must act in strict accordance with the law. Do not make yourselves party functionaries,” he said, adding that their involvement would make the escalating political crisis last longer. “We are witnessing a coup d’etat today, an attempt to seize power. The only way to resolve the issue is to reach political agreements. Armed people cannot settle the conflict,” he said, slamming Interior Minister Vasyl Tsushko for today’s "police intrusion" in the Prosecutor General’s Office and describing their actions as outrageous and criminal.

“What Minister Tsushko has done today is a crime. Those who implemented his order have also committed a crime,” he said, citing article 60 of the constitution which says one should not fulfill criminal commands or orders.

Yushchenko said he had asked the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Security Service of Ukraineto investigate today’s events.
