The Ukrainian leader invited the King Carl XVI Gustaf and his wife to visit Ukraine in 2008 and described Sweden as “the country’s reliable partner and one of our most consistent supporters in the European Union.”

Yushchenko said Ukraine wanted to build closer ties with Sweden, adding that Ukraine and the European Union should sign an “ambitious” enhanced cooperation agreement to develop political association and economic cooperation.

The meeting also focused on how to resolve the country’s political crisis. Yushchenko expressed confidence early parliamentary elections would help restore political stability.
