Victor Yushchenko and Lech Kaczynski on Friday met with members of Poland’s Ukrainian community in Warsaw, according to president's press office.

In his speech, the Ukrainian leader said he and his colleague were “keenly interested” in the life of Ukraine’s and Poland’s national minorities and often discussed their problems.

“I am optimistic and know that we will definitely find answers to these questions,” he said, adding that minority issues were among the itemsof today’scooperation agreement between the two countries. “We will have to work hard,” he added.

Yushchenko said both nations “share some difficult and sad pages in history.”

“However, our strength lies in our abilityto assess even the most difficult historical issues from the standpoint of historic reconciliation and mutual forgiveness,” he said.

Lech Kaczynski said he was interested in having good relations with Poland’s Ukrainian community and therefore ready to meet them again to appreciate their problems.
