The Ukraine's President Victor Yushchenko has attended a church service in the Temple of the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Chornobyl Heroes Barrow in Kyiv to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the world’s worst nuclear accident.

He was accompanied by Security Council Secretary Vitaly Haiduk, Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha, First Deputy Chief of Staff Oleksandr Shlapak, Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky, as well as other public and political leaders.

They observed one minute of silence and lit candles to honor the Chornobyl victims during the service, led by Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader then spoke with relatives of the Chornobyl liquidators, who had been in charge of the removal of the consequences of the April 26 blast.
