Victor Yushchenko has met with a delegation of Japan Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren) to speak about how to develop Ukraine’s business ties with Japan, president's press office reported.

The President said Japanese businesspeople should play a “powerful” role in Ukraine, using its economic capabilities.

“Ukraine is ready to give a special status to our relations,” he said, adding that both the cabinet of ministers and his secretariat were ready to form groups to promote and implement Japan’s business ideas.

Yushchenko said Ukraine was interested in developing energy and energy efficient technologies, as well as oil projects. He called on those present to take part in privatizations of state property in “all areas of the national economy.”

The business leaders said they could invest in many branches of Ukraine’s economy and added that the two countries should considerably increase this year’s USD 1 billion trade rate.

Japan Business Federation is an economic organization founded in May 2002.

It has been the voice of big business in Japan since World War II and is generally considered the most conservative of the country’s three major economic organizations.

The delegation is visiting Ukraine to give new stimuli to Ukraine’s economic and political relations with Japan.
