Ukraine may be able to meet its own requirements for uranium within four years, Fuel and Energy Minister Yuri Boiko said at international energy investment forum in Kyiv on Tuesday, “Cabinet press office” reported.

Ukraine presently mines only 30% of the quantity of uranium it needs.

According to Mr. Boiko, the government created the Ukratromprom nuclear concern during the period of 2006-2007 and united all the state assets in the area of production and mining of uranium with the aim of increasing production within four years and fully meeting Ukraine's requirements for nuclear fuel.

The Enerhoatom nuclear power plant operates the four nuclear power stations in Ukraine and accounts for about half of the total quantity of electricity generated in the country.
