Victor Yushchenko has spoken with Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the European Union and High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, president’s press office informed.

They discussed the political situation in Ukraine, particularly why the Ukrainian leader had signed a decree disbanding parliament. The President said he was holding talks with the prime minister and parliamentary leaders to ensure that his order is implemented.

Yushchenko and Solana agreed that the political crisis should be resolved in a democratic manner.

Victor Yushchenko also has spoken with Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

They agreed that the political crisis in Ukraine should be resolved democratically. The President said he had signed a decree to disband parliament and call an early election after talks with parliamentary leaders and added that a snap election was a common practice in democratic states.

Davis thanked the Ukrainian leader for informing him about the situation. The President invited him to visit Ukraine.
