The Consular Section of the United States Embassy in Ukraine has introduced new procedures of nonimmigrant visa application, new security requirements and created a call center, which was launched on March 26, US Vice Consul Cliff Reed said while touring Zhytomyr, “Cabinet press office” reported.
According to him, the call center provides information support for US visa applicants. It is situated in Warsaw and can service the East European region, including Ukraine. The Vice Consul said that until April 9, the call center will provide visa information and schedule all nonimmigrant visa appointments free of charge to the public. Since April 10, the call center will begin providing visa information and scheduling appointments for a fee of the hryvnia equivalent of 12 USD for eight minutes.
During the first several days the call center received some 600 calls and 146 interviews with Ukrainian citizens were appointed. According to the Vice Consul, the new service will facilitate the visa procedure, which is proved by experience of 40 countries, where similar call centers are operational. All of them are commercial entities, belonging to an American company. The US Vice Consul aired his hope that the number of Ukrainians willing to visit the USA will increase in 2007. According to him, in 2006 the Embassy saw 50,000 nonimmigrant visa applications.
