Azarov is elected Chairman of CIS Economic Council

First Vice Prime Minister, Finance Minister Mykola Azarov, who is participating in the regular 33rd session of the CIS Economic Council in Moscow Friday, was elected Chairman of the CIS Economic Council. Representatives of Tajikistan and Azerbaijan were elected the co-chairs, “Cabinet press office” informs.

In December 2006 Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko determined Ukraine's priority in the CIS as creating a free trade zone.

As Yushchenko has earlier stated, despite frustrating results of the CIS Summit, which was held in Minsk, Belarus, on November 28, 2006, Ukraine keeps on viewing the CIS as an efficient instrument of multilateral dialogue, especially in the economic dimension.
