Ukraine’s political leaders on Monday agreed to create a group that will work to resolve the country’s most pressing problems and establish a constitutional commission involving representatives of the leading political forces and governmental institutions, President’s press office informs. In his speech, Victor Yushchenko said their main conclusions after today’s talks were:

1. Today, the parliamentary majority and opposition forces declare that they seek constructive cooperation and are ready to hold talks to tackle the most problematic issues.

2. Representatives of the coalition, opposition forces and the Presidential Secretariat will form a group today to formulate a political agenda and outline how it should be fulfilled.

The President said their main task was to inventory all the proposed bills and decide which of them should be passed without delay. He suggested that this group hold their first meeting after 4 p.m. today.

Yulia Tymoshenko, who leads the biggest opposition bloc, insistedthat a vote to approve Volodymyr Ohryzko as the country’s new foreign minister and a referendum on the form of government in Ukraine, as well as other demands presented by the opposition last week, be included in their agenda.

3. They should establish a commission to amend the country’s constitution until Friday, March 23.
