Representative of the European Commission Ferran Tarradelas Espuni considers that inclusion of Ukraine into the Agreement on Energy community will lighten attraction of investments. Mr. Espuni commented on the decision of the EU council to include Ukraine into the acting Agreement.

“Energy community is a process aimed at spreading internal energy market of the EU to South-Eastern region of Europe and provided for use of similar regulatory system in all countries-members, what will lighten attraction of investments,” EC representative said.

In response to the question whether joining the Energy community will give Ukraine a right to hope for more effective support from the EU in energy relations with Russia, Espuni noted that relations between Ukraine and Russia are bilateral, and the EU will remain neutral as regards these relations.

As a reminder, on December 9, 2006 EU council passed the Action Plan for 2007-2009 “Energy policy of Europe” with registered intention to spread the Agreement to Ukraine, Moldova, Norway and Turkey.
