Victor Yushchenko sent a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych on Monday to thank the government for supporting his proposal to increase social welfare spending, president’s press office reported.
The President said the government had enough resources to raise the minimum wage and the minimum pension without increasing this year’s budget deficit.
“Having the sufficient domestic resource, we have no right to borrow money abroad to pay pensions and salaries. Today’s social spending must not become a burden for future generations,” he said.
Yushchenko suggested that the government and his secretariat work together to propose changes to the budget.
