Victor Yushchenko presented awards to Ukrainian scientists on Wednesday.

In his speech, the President said, “What each of you does helps Ukrainians live better and Ukraine become more competitive,” President’s press office informed.

He praised scientists developing healthcare technologies, as well as all thosewhose research “helps Ukraine advance faster.”

“For example, projects to strengthen the country’s energy security are being carried out in the oil industry and metallurgy. Close relations between science and practical implementation of scientific inventions should become a common practice,” he said.

Mr. Yushchenko thanked linguists who authored The Atlas of the Ukrainian Language.

“It took almost two decades to compile it. Many of its authors are no longer with us. However, their result is one of the significant stages in the development of Ukrainian language studies,” he said.

The President then addressed physicists, “I know your work has been praised at the leading scientific centers of the United States and Western Europe. These are planetary achievements, and they prove that Ukraine can produce intellectual products of the highest standard.”

Speaking to young scientists, he expressed confidence they would help Ukrainian science develop.

“I would like to thank every representative of the younger generation for their commitment,” he said.

“I am happy to see many talented scientists in this hall. You are tackling the most important issues like oncology, recyclingand environmentally safe technologies. I believe your achievements will soon be appreciated not only in Ukraine but worldwide.”

President of the National Academy of Sciences Borys Paton and First Deputy Secretariat Chief of Staff Ivan Vasyunyk attended the ceremony.
