The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated reports in the media about Ukrainian radioactive metal products are groundless, the Ministry's press service said, “Cabinet press office” reported.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Industrial Policy and engaged agencies and organizations thoroughly analyzed the system of radiation control at manufacture enterprises and export execution customs stations. They found the radiation control of metal products meeting international practice.

Over the past 15 years metallurgical enterprises have never seen exceeding the acceptable concentration of radioactive nuclides in steel and iron.

As the commentary by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry underlined, Ukrainian metallurgical produce, which is exported, along with the customs control, undergoes radiological control at every post of bordercrossing and the same control can be implemented by an import-nation.

Thus, reports about radioactive metal products of Ukrainian origin are absolutely groundless and false.

The economic-production association "MetallurgProm" has proposed to create an ecological council for control of radiological safety to prevent accusations of supply of radioactive produce.

In August 2006 Deputy Industrial Policy Minister Volodymyr Hranovsky accused the Russian Duma of political pressure upon Ukraine through initiating the introduction of moratorium in import of Ukrainian metal products suspecting it's being radioactive.
