According to the press center of the Chernivtsi Borderguard Unit, it hosted a meeting between Ukrainian and Romanian border guards at the Ukrainian - Romanian borderline section into analyzing implementation of agreements, summing up results of 2006 and outlining tasks for 2007, "Cabinet press office” reported.
The parties signed protocols of cooperation, which are to improve the level of cooperation between the two border guard services, which is the next step in the process of creating a European transborder security system
The Ukrainian and Romanian border guards noted that due to joint efforts they have managed to secure stability on the Ukrainian - Romanian borderline and stated the stable dynamics of the passenger-transport crossings. In 2006 some 2.667 million people and 648,813 vehicles crossed the borderline, which was respectively 26% and 20% rise versus 2005. The border guards also prevented 80 smuggling incidents to the tune of 5.112 million UAH (one USD=5.05 UAH).
