Victor Yushchenko has presented the Order of Courage to Vadym Nesterchuk, a 13-year-old schoolboy  from the village of Holovenka in the Zhytomyr region, president's press office reported.

On December 26, 2006, Vadym rescued four children – five-year-old twins and their two brothers – from a burning house. The children had been  playing with matches when the blaze erupted. Vadym heard his neighbor’s screams and climbed into the burning house through a window. He first rescued the children and then switched off gas and elctrical fuses, and opened the windows. He put out the fire along with other two boys.

The President thanked Vadym’s mother and told him, “You deserve the order for what you did.”

The young hero has two brothers and a sister.

Zhytomyr Governor Yuriy Pavlenko attended the ceremony.
