The World Bank intends to reorient its program towards Ukraine and will pay more attention to infrastructure projects.

The chief economic adviser of the World Bank Martin Rayzer told on February 1, in the scope of the meeting of first vice PM, Finance Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov with the President of the Word Bank on Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Europe region and Central Asia the Ambassador Birmingham, the press service of the Finance Ministry informed.

Birmingham called Kyiv-Kharkiv road construction one of the major project.

The parties discussed preparation to the conclusion of new partnership strategy of the World Bank with Ukraine, and also forthcoming meeting between Azarov and the vice president of the World Bank on European region and Middle Asia Shigeo Katzu.

Rayzer named four main strategy directions of cooperation of the World Bank with Ukraine:

-strengthening of Ukraine’s competitiveness, including increase of investments in infrastructure and improvement of business atmosphere in the country;

-effective work of state and municipal sectors;

-improvement of system of social protect, including reform of pension system;

-provision of development of environmental protection as well as agriculture and energy saving.

In turn, Azarov thanked the World Bank for support and called priority directions of mutual cooperation: road constructions, railway reconstruction, and reform of housing communal services, completion of reform on tax administration, reform on pension provision in particular creation of private pension fund.
