President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko has appealed to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with a request to decide if recently passed amendments to the Land Code of Ukraine to extend a moratorium on the sale of farmland are constitutional.
Press office of the President reported Tuesday.
Last December, Ukraine's parliament extended a moratorium on the sale of agricultural lands until January 1, 2008. Victor Yushchenko vetoed it, but the parliament overrode his veto.
Yushchenko said the moratorium is pushing the land market into the "shadow" economy.
