Foreign Minister of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk has been on leave since January 3, and his official visit to Czech Republic was planned yet in 2006. The statement of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine comments on Yanukovych declaration that the government was not consulted about Tarasyuk’s visit to the Czech Republic.

The statement of the press office says in accordance with article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine and with other commission of the President of Ukraine the visit was consulted with the Head of the State Victor Yushchenko.

Foreign Ministry reminds that on January 10 deputy foreign minister Volodymyr Ohryzko informed in written form Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych about agreed with the President official visit of Tarasyuk to Czech Republic on January 15-16.

According to the Ministry, artificial exaggeration of passion around the official visit of the Foreign Minister causes damage to international image of Ukraine.

In an interview to radio “Svoboda” Tarasyuk declared that he inclines to continue active work in the office of the Foreign Minister. He noted that he stays in office on legal ground.

“I appealed against the VR‘s decision, made regardless of legislation and the Constitution of Ukraine. The court will consider this case this week, and only Constitutional Court can put an end to this issue. I an sure in my case, and I am convinced I will win,” he said.

Tarasyuk noted that his strong desire and intention to stand up for Ukraine’s interests, but he does not want anyone to interfere.

“Due to such interference I could not pay some very important for Ukraine visits,” he added.

The minister reminded that because of obstacles caused by the Cabinet he failed to visit Belgium, Switzerland and Algeria.
