Ukraine’s parliament supported the law on opposition
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has given the bill on a parliamentary opposition its first reading. 362 deputies voted for the decision. Authors of the draft bill are Yulia Tymoshenko (BYuT), Vyacheslav Koval (Our Ukraine), Mykola Komar (Party of Regions).

The explanatory note says that adoption of the law will need increase of budget expenses for financing secretariat of a parliamentary opposition at the expense of the Verkhovna Rada maintenance costs. Increase of budget expenses will be also needed fro covering activity of a parliamentary opposition in the press.

A parliamentary opposition is supposed to be given 11 VR committees to run.

The draft bill provides for introducing changes to the laws on Count Chamber, on National bank of Ukraine, on National TV and radio broadcast council, on Supreme justice council, which provide for opposition’s participation in staff formation of these state bodies.

The draft bill also provides for introducing changes to Budget Code in connection with new opposition’s plenary powers to control use of budget means.
