Ukraine and Russia should move to active creation of joint programs in various areas of activity, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych said on Friday during a meeting with Russia's President Vladimir Putin, who was on a visit to Ukraine, “Cabinet press office” reported.

He called for creation of joint programs in the areas of oil and gas extraction, transportation, aircraft construction, and space exploration.

Yanukovych described the meeting of the Yushchenko-Putin Ukrainian-Russian intergovernmental committee that took place in Kyiv on Friday as an event that has "moved Ukrainian-Russian relations to a new plane."

"We have been asked many times why there was a quest in relations for two years. To put it mildly, negotiations were held through the mass media. Today's dialogue, which is taking place at the level of presidents, removes the political issues that were artificially created," Yanukovych said.

He said that major issues involving the aircraft construction industry, space exploration, and the fuel and energy complex were discussed on Friday.

According to him, the Ukrainian government aims to continue intensive dialogue with the Russian government.

"Without waiting for directives, Russia's Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov and I are starting work on many issues," Yanukovych said.
