In his opening speech the PM noted that Cabinet of Ministers pays great attention to relations with Council of Europe.
“We have worked out a program of government’s activity and registered social program, fight against poverty, observance of human rights. Now we start a reform in this direction,” Yanukovych said. He noted that “we pay great attention to development of free press and freedom of speech.”
Yanukovych also noted that government of Ukraine appreciates development and implementation of Action Plan of Council of Europe for Ukraine.
“We understand that consecutive accomplishment of these actions assists in realization of obligations of Ukraine before Council of Europe, what in its turn will give an incitement to development of civil society and observance of human rights and freedoms,” Yanukovych summed up.
Thomas Hammarberg, the Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights, is paying a 7-day visit to Ukraine for a comprehensive assessment of the human rights situation.
