The President of Ukraine Vikktor Yushchenko declares that Yulia Tymoshenko’s bloc should give the Government a legal treatment concerning social protection of the citizens.

Iryna Vannykova, the press secretary of the President, reported at the briefing on results of the meeting of Yushchenko with the BYuT’s leader Yulia Tymoshenko.

Vannykova informed that Yushchenko with Tymoshenko discussed issues on preparation of the state draft budget for 2007, legal regulation of the opposition’s status and the political reform.

The press secretary reminded that the President had been actively participating in the preparation of the draft budget bill for 2007, forwarded three letters with the detailed analysis of the budget draft to the Verkhovna Rada.

She noted that the Government has considered the President’s suggestions partially, in particular the issue on the governmental guarantees was excluded.

At the same time, according to Vannykova, the head of the State stands for the intensification of social part of the budget, in particular, increase of the living wage level.

Yushchenko also considers the regime of manual regulation of the budget expenses inadmissible.

The President considers that his and the BYuT’s position regarding social part of the budget must coincide.

According to Vannykova, the President thinks “the BYuT as an oppositional power should give the Government a legal treatment concerning social defense of the citizens.”
