Ukraine pays off debt for gas supplies

Naftogaz Ukrainy has paid the principal amount of debt to RosUkrEnergo for natural gas supplies in 2006, Andrei Knutov, an official spokesperson for RosUkrEnergo, told RBC on Tuesday.

Naftogaz Ukrainy's press office reported earlier that the company transferred $306m on December 1 to RosUkrEnergo as payment for the outstanding amount of debt for natural gas supplied in the first quarter of 2006. The company maintained that it had paid off its debt entirely.

However, as a source close to the negotiations between the companies specified, there are delay damages remaining outstanding, whose amount is now being agreed between the parties.
