At the same time he noted that since January 1 of this year, demographic situation in Ukraine has got better, in particular, average birth rate has increased by 6% and death rate has slightly decreased.
According to the President, the main causes of death are heart and vascular system diseases. Yushchenko noted poor diagnostics, low level of preventive measures and treatment of these diseases.
According to the Head of the State, cancer takes the second place among diseases in Ukraine. The President pointed out grave situation with TB; in some regions sickness rate reaches epidemic threshold.
One more urgent problem in Ukraine, according to
Yushchenko, is AIDS.
