At a news conference with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus on Tuesday, Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine and Lithuania shared the same geopolitical outlooks and vision of the development of bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

“We have a plan to implement this cooperation at the presidential, parliamentary and governmental levels,” he said, president's press office reported.

The President said in December Ukraine and Lithuania would mark the fifteenth anniversary of the establishing of diplomatic ties. He described it as “the period of effective cooperation.” The two countries have established a firm tradition of beneficial, trustful and large-scale relations, he explained, and “also share the same geopolitical, national, economic and humanitarian interests.”

Yushchenko thanked the Lithuanian government for supporting Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic bid. Valdas Adamkus promised his support. He said the two countries saw security issues in the Black Sea-Baltic Sea region alike.
