During his working visit to Rivne regions Victor Yushchenko told reporters that Ukraine's political parties should formulate their position on the January 1/2006 constitutional changes, president's press office reported.

The President said this issue was immensely important and expressed worries about the country’s inadequate balance of powers.

“If we do not build adequate balances,…., it can trigger very negative tendencies in the development of our society,” he opined.

Yushchenko said his decree to form a constitutional commission was aimed at starting a discussion on further constitutional improvements, involving Ukraine’s political elite, “not only legislators but also government executives, non-parliamentary political parties, NGOs and mass media.”

When asked about the decision of the Our Ukraine Bloc to initiate the repeal of the constitutional changes, the President said he did not influence their decisions.
